A sleeping arctic wolf rests on the barren tundra. Mountain. Rose, Pink, Purple, Yellow, Green. Large Painting by artist Donald Ryker in textured expressionist impressionist art style with unique impasto glaze technique.
The arctic tundra biome is dry and barren because of the low precipitation at that altitude. It was a challenge to paint that cold dry environment the wolf is resting on. There are stubby grasses and low blooming tiny flowers but also lots of stone and gravel. I painted this white wolf in yellows reminiscent of Franz Marc’s Yellow Dog painting. The light shines from the left and he casts a deep purple shadow on the ground. This high level predator can rest easy because there are very few threats to his safety in his world. —Donald Ryker
