Monet’s Water Lilly colors in the fierce form of a crocodile with a reflection in the lake water. Brown Green, Pink, Blue. Large Painting by artist Donald Ryker in textured expressionist impressionist art style with unique impasto glaze technique.
What a challenge this compositions was! I chose it because of the reflection, the challenge to create the water, and that mouth full of teeth and tongue. I am pleased with his monochrome green form and the pinks and reds in his open mouth. I painted the reflection in different shades of brown to develop it underwater. The final piece for me was the addition of the blue on the surface of the brown swampy water. Some viewers have commented on the similar coloring to some of Monet’s Lilly artwork That is quite a compliment. —Donald Ryker
